Update : 07 Nov 2019, 09:36 PM

Bus drivers started a strike Thursday morning demanding cancellation of some sections of the Road Transport Act 2018, which came into effect last Friday.

The sudden strike has left the passengers suffering immensely, reports UNB.

District Transport Workers' Union General Secretary Abdul Kaium said: "It is not possible for us to drive when there is a law over paying a fine of Tk5 lakh."

Lelin Rayhan, convener of District Transport Owners Association, said: "We have been talking to the deputy commissioner and will talk to the leaders of labour unions.”

The "Road Transport Bill - 2018" was passed by parliament on September 19, 2018, keeping a provision of maximum five years' jail time for any death or serious injuries caused by reckless or negligent driving.
