7 killed in road accidents

The incidents took place in six different districts

Seven people were killed in separate road accidents in Jessore, Patuakhali, Khulna, Gazipur, Natore, and Tangail on Friday.                 

In Jessore, two pedestrians including a woman were killed being hit by a speeding bus on the Jessore-Khulna Highway in the Abhaynagar upazila around 6am.

The deceased were identified Golam Rabbani, 75, from the Jafarpur area of the Abhaynagar upazila in Jessore, and Joshna Begum, 55, from the Daugati area of the Phultala upazila in Khulna.

Nawapara Highway police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Omar Faruk said: "A Prince Paribahan bus lost its control in the Jafarpur area and hit two pedestrians, killing them on the spot.

Their bodies were sent to the Jessore General Hospital morgue for autopsy, he added.

In Patuakhali, a motorcyclist, identified as Mahin, 18 was killed when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a roadside tree at Madhabpur of Bauphal upazila.

Bauphal police station OC Khandakar Mostafizur Rahman said: “The injured was sent to the Patuakhali General Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.”

The deceased was a member of Bangladesh Chhatra League in Sadar upazila. 

In Khulna, a five-year-old child was run over by an easy-bike in the Sonadanga upazila, killing him early on Friday.

The deceased Ratul, was taken to Khulna Medical College and Hospital, where on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Sonadanga Model police station SI Harsheet Mandal said: “Ratul’s mother was collecting water when Ratul suddenly walked out to the middle of the street.”

In Gazipur, a motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a covered van on the Mawna-Fulbaria road in the Sreepur upazila.

The deceased Enamul Hasan, 25, a factory worker, was killed on the spot, said Sreepur police station SI Habibur Rahman. 

The body of the deceased was handed over to his family members without an autopsy, he added.

In Natore, a motorcyclist was killed and his passenger injured when the vehicle collided with a dirt-haulier in Sadar upazila.

The deceased was identified as Rudra Sarkar, and the injured as Masum Sarker, 35.

Sadar police station OC Jalal Uddin said: “The vehicle was seized but its driver fled the scene.”

In Tangail, a van driver was killed when a speeding motorcycle hit his van on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway in Mirzapur upazila in the early hours.

The deceased Abdul Hamid, 60, was taken to Kumudini Hospital in critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries.

Mirzapur police station SI Fazlur Rahman said: “We arrested the 20-year-old motorcyclist Antar Miya following the incident.”
