Three people of a family were killed, and three others critically injured after the gas cylinder of an ambulance exploded in Chittagong on Thursday.
The explosion, which had completely destroyed the vehicle, occurred in Chaturi Chowmuhani area under Anwara upazila around 2:30pm, police said.
The deceased were identified as Mofizur Rahman, 70, and his two daughters-in-law Joynab Begum, 28, and Bulbul Aktar, 25.
The injured were identified as Nejam Uddin, 20, Saifuddin, 24, and Munna, 30.
Of them, Mofizur and Joynab died on the spot when the gas cylinder exploded, said Anwara police station OC Dulal Mahmud told Dhaka Tribune.
Bulbul was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) with critical burn injuries. She passed away there while undergoing treatment, said the hospital police outpost’s Assistant Sub-Inspector Alauddin Talukder.
Fire Service and Civil Defence’s Anwara unit Station Officer Dulal Mitra said: “Body parts of two people scattered across the street after the explosion.”
At least 10 people have been killed, and 10 others injured across the country from such incidents so far this year, according to media reports.
