Flash flood affects 20 villages in Sherpur

Around 20 villages in Jhinaigati and Nalitabari areas of Sherpur have been inundated after heavy rainfall the last two days. Incessant rainfalls as well as onrush of water from the upstream hilly areas have led to the swelling of the Moharashi and Someshwari rivers, eventually leading to the flooding of many low-lying areas in Jhinaigati, Dhanshail, Kangsha, Nolkura and Gouripur unions, according to the upazila administration.A road in Jhinaigati Upazila is submerged by flood water DHAKA TRIBUNE A road in Jhinaigati Upazila is submerged by flood water DHAKA TRIBUNE Many people have been marooned while households and paddy fields fully damaged. Knee-deep water has also been stagnated in front of several offices in the upazila headquarters including the Youth Development Department, Women Affairs Department and Post Office. Jhinaigati Upazila Nirbahi Officer AZM Sharif Hossain visited the flood-affected areas to assess the situation.
