Export and import between India and Bangladesh through Sonamasjid land port in Chapainawabganj will remain closed for seven days, on the occasion of Durga Puja.

All business activities in this land port will be halted from Saturday till October 11; however, trade will resume from October 12.

General Secretary of Sonamasjid Customs Clearing and Forwarding (C&F) Agents Association, Mesbahul Islam told Dhaka Tribune: "All activities will remain closed in the land port, as Mohdipur land port authorities in India have announced a government holiday for seven days on account of Durga Puja.

"The Indian Customs and Port Authority has sent a letter to their Bangladeshi counterpart, informing them of the holiday. In view of this, customs authorities of both countries decided to halt all trade for the short duration."

Meanwhile, the movement of passport-holding travellers of both countries through the check-post will continue as usual, Sonamasjid Land Port Assistant Customs Commissioner Mohammad Saifur Rahman added.
