Dutch ambassador to Bangladesh, Harry Verweij, visited the Dutch Dairy Farm in Munshiganj where modern technology is being used for production, and also for taking care of its animals.
The farm is located in the Shatgharia village of Louhajang upazila. It began its operation last year, said the director of the farm, Gias Uddin Ahmed Nirob.
Nirob welcomed the ambassador upon his arrival at the farm around 1pm yesterday.
After visiting the farm, the ambassador said: “Bangladesh is a promising country in terms of agricultural development. The farm is a good example for other dairy farms that are looking to move forward.” He added that the farm had also opened job opportunities for the locals.
The farm’s Director Nirob said: “We have 60 dairy cows in our farm that had been brought from Australia. From the animals we are able to produce 1800-1900 litres of milk every day.
“Modern techniques of cow fattening allowed 10 months old cows in the farm to gain a weight of minimum 350 kilograms.”
The farm sources said when the farm had just began, the food for the cows were imported from France and Australia. Recently modern technologies are being used to produce the animal food locally. The farm has a milking parlour where modern machineries are being used to create a suitable environment for the animals.
The farm has three full time veterinarians to treat animals, and an advanced system to identify diseased animals, and disinfecting the farm.
