BIWTA: Drive to evict 1,154 illegal establishments in Khulna soon

The High Court has instructed to free the banks of the rivers from illegal encroachers

Bangladesh Inland and Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) will conduct a drive to demolish 1,154 illegal structures along the Rupsha and the Bhairab rivers in Khulna.

Mustafizur Rahman, deputy director of Khulna BIWTA, said  1,154 establishments along the banks of the two rivers have been identified as illegal and will be evicted soon.

According to the BIWTA source, the local administration and BIWTA jointly formed a committee to conduct a survey for identifying illegal establishments located along the river banks in 2017.

They conducted the survey in Labanchara, Helatala, Goalpara, Pabla, Doulatpur, Razapur, Tutpara and Baniakhamar areas and detected 1,154 structures illegally.

The BIWTA took the initiative following the directives of the High Court to free the banks of the rivers from illegal encroachers.
