6 BSMRSTU students suspended over Facebook post

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University (BSMRSTU) has suspended six of its students over a Facebook post regarding untidy classrooms.

The suspended students Habibullah Neon, Md Rashed Hasan, Munim Islam Hira, Jhilam Halder, Fahmida Bristi, and Debabrata Roy, were all third-year students of electrical and electronic engineering (EEE) department.

The students were notified of their suspension of six months by a letter signed by the Registrar Prof Dr Nuruddin Ahmed on Wednesday, confirmed the registrars' office.

According to the letter issued, Habibullah Neon posted a Facebook status regarding the department's untidy classroom a month ago, in which the other five students commented, lashing out at the department's chairman and at the negligence of university authorities, which damaged the reputation of the institution.

They were suspended according to the recommendations of the department's academic committee, and were asked to submit their response regarding the matter within five working days.
