2 killed in Chuadanga, Chittagong 'gunfights'

At least two people have been killed in reported gunfights in Chuadanga and Chittagong districts.

The incidents occurred on Friday.

In Chittagong, a suspected pirate was killed in a reported gunfight with a patrol team of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Chambol area under Banshkhali upazila around 8:15am.

The deceased is Md Iran, 35.

Md Masuqur Rahman, assistant director (Media) of RAB 7 told Dhaka Tribune that the gunfight took place between a RAB patrol team and the pirates.

Later, a bullet-riddled body was recovered from the spot.

He said: “The deceased was a notorious pirate accused in 10 cases including murder and robbery."

Around 13 firearms including a foreign-made pistol, a huge cache of bullets and locally-made arms were recovered from the spot, the RAB official added.

In Chuadanga, a suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with police and two gangs of drug traders in Jairampur's Kathaltala area of Damurhuda upazila around 2:30am.

The deceased is Rokonuzzaman alias Rokon, 35.

According to the police, a drive was conducted in the area aftera tip off that two gangs of drugs traders were firing shots at each other.

Realizing the presence of police, the criminals opened fire at them, forcing the law enforcement to fire back inself-defence.

Later, the drug traders fled from the spot, leaving the bullet-riddled body of Rokon there. 

The body was then sent to ChuadangaSadar Hospital, where the duty doctors declared him dead.

Damurhuda model police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sukumar Biswas said the deceased was wanted in 10 cases including drugs, robbery, abduction, smuggling and many more.

Police recovered locally made guns, ammunition, two machetes, and a bag of phensedyl from the spot.
