Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity has demanded an end to extra fares and harassment of homebound passengers during this Eid-ul-Azha.
Secretary General of the Samity, Mozammel Hoque Chowdhury also demanded the removal of unfit vehicles and unskilled drivers from the highways.
He addressed these issues in a press conference organized by Dhaka Reporters Unity, held at Sagor-Runi Hall on Saturday morning.
Mozammel said: "I want the removal of all unfit vehicles from the highways to make homebound passenger's journey safer, smoother and accident-free."
Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader also warned transport owners not to charge extra fares from the homebound passengers. He said anyone involved in the practice would be severely punished.
