A 50km-long tailback has been formed on the Dhaka-Tangail highway, causing immense suffering to thousands of homebound Eid travellers.
It began taking shape from Bangabandhu Bridge to Mirzapur upazila on early Saturday.
Tangail Superintendent of Police (SP) Sanjib Kumar Rai said the gridlock, was created due to heavy pressure of vehicles, and also because toll booths were closed for sometimes.
Members of law enforcement agencies, such as district police, highway police and many others, have been working on the highway to ease the gridlock, SP Sanjib said.
Vehicles have been moving slowly on the highway since Friday. Many passengers lamented that they had been stuck at the same place for hours.
