Imam remanded for child’s rape in mosque

The shocking incident took place in the Chanmari area of Fatullah union on Tuesday morning

A Narayanganj court granted police five days to interrogate the imam of a local mosque in a case filed for the rape of an eight year old girl in a place of worship.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Kausar Alam issued the order on Thursday afternoon, when the reported rapist, Fazlur Rahman, was produced in court by police, confirmed court police Inspector Abdul Hai.

He said the court also gave police the green light to question the five other people accused in the case filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

The case was filed with Fatullah police station on Wednesday evening by the child’s father. This came a day after Imam Fazlur raped the eight year old girl in his room on the second floor of Baitul Hafez Jame Masjid, in the Chanmari area of Fatullah union, on Tuesday morning.

After the father lodged a complaint with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) 11, the elite force arrested Fazlur and five of his accomplices on Wednesday morning.

According to the case details, the accused also tried to abduct and murder the child after her family went to the authorities and hospitalized her.
