Rail communication between Dhaka and the northern part through Gaibandha has been restored after remaining suspended for 22 days, due to flood triggered by torrential rain.
The Lalmoni Express started from Dhaka and crossed the reconstructed railway from Bonerpara to Gaibandha, reaching Gaibandha railway station at around 9:50 am on Thursday.
The train then left for Lalmonirhat station within five minutes.
Chief Engineer of Rajshahi Bangladesh Railway (West) Afzal Hossain, and other high officials observed the crossing of the train, across the newly repaired railway track.
Gaibandha Station Master Abul Kashem said: "Only the local and mail trains moved across this partially damaged rail link.
"The intercity trains commuted using a different route. From Thursday the trains are commuting directly from Dhaka to Gaibandha."
On July 17, soil and stones under a thousand feet long rail line across Gaibandha up stations -- Trimohoni Badiakhali, and Bonerpara junctions -- was washed away by flood.
Large ditches formed in other places along the rail line, and were filled with water, disrupting the rail communication.
The trains of this route ---Korotoa Express commuted across Santahar and Bonerpara, Dolonchapa commuted across Dinajpur-Gaibandha, and Sevenup and Eightdown mail train moved across Panchagarh-Gaibandha.
Rangpur and Lalmoni Express went to Dhaka via Kaunia, Parbatipur, and Santahar route, while the 19/20 Bagura, and Padmarag train remain suspended.
