Six killed in road accidents

The accidents happened in Narayanganj, Natore and Gazipur

At least six people were killed and several others injured in road accidents in four districts on late Thursday and on Friday.

In Natore, a child was run over and killed by a construction vehicle in Baraigram upazila.

The incident occurred on Friday morning.

The deceased was identified as a seven-year-old girl named Urmi.

Baraigram police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Dilip Kumar Das said Urmi was crushed under the vehicle while crossing a road with her grandfather.

A case has been filed with the police.

In Tangail, a man was run over and killed by a speeding truck on the Sakhipur-Gopinpur road in Sakhipur upazila on Friday afternoon. 

The deceased Amir Hamza, 55, was a locals wood worker.

When locals rescued him and took him to Sakhipur Upazila Health Complex, the on-call physicians declared him dead. 

Locals also seized the truck and apprehended its driver.

In Narayanganj, three women were killed when a bus ran them over at Kanchpur intersection in Sonargaon upazila.

The incident occurred around midnight on Thursday.

The deceased were identified as Sangeeta Rani Barman, 40, Barsha Barma, 14, and Debi Das, 55.

Kanchpur highway police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Samad said the women were killed on the spot, under the wheels of a bus while crossing the road.

The eight injured were taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

Police sent the dead bodies to Narayanganj General Hospital for autopsy.

In Gazipur, a man was run over and killed by a private car in Sreepur highway.

The incident occurred around 10pm on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Sirajul Islam, 45.

Mawna Highway police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Delowar Hossain said Sirajul was hit by a private car while crossing the road on a bicycle.

He flew off to the side of the road, hit his head hard and died on the spot.
