Two teachers of Ideal High School in Dhunot, Bogra, reportedly cut the hair of male students in an attempt to maintain discipline.
On Saturday morning, computer Instructor Rikta Akhter and Instructor Sazzad Hossain entered an exam hall and reportedly beat up around 50 ninth and tenth grade students, before cutting their hair.
After several local news media covered the incident, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Dhunot formed a three member probe committee to investigate the incident.
UNO Razia Sultana said necessary action will be taken following an investigation.
Accused computer Instructor Sazzad Hossain said: "We cut the students’ hair because they didn't obey our orders to get a haircut."
Prohibition of corporal punishment is part of Education Act 2013, that the ministry drafted to ensure rights related to education and the protection of students.
School teachers may face three months of imprisonment or Tk10,000 as fine, or both, for practicing corporal punishment when proven guilty.
It is reported that many teachers, especially at rural schools and madrasas, are still in non-compliance with the High Court ruling that prohibits corporal punishment.
