JSS activist reported missing after Rangamati ‘gunfight’

A speedboat chase and shootout in the meanders of the Karnaphuli River and Kaptai Lake by two PCJSS factions left one missing

A member of the Parbatya Chattogram Jana Samhati Samiti has been reported missing after a gunfight between two factions in Rangamati.

The incident occurred near Kachalong Dor area in Subalong union of Barkal upazila around 10am Thursday.

According to Barkal police station Officer-in-Charge Mofazzal Ahmed Khan, two trawlers carrying sand and bricks were passing through Subalong Bazaar, a stronghold of the MN Larma faction of the PCJSS.

A group of PCJSS (MN Larma) activists hailed the trawlers and tried to extort money. The trawlers ignored their hails and tried to flee. The would-be extorters chased them on speedboats. 

When they were crossing through an area called Ambagan, a group of PCJSS (Santu Larma) activists opened fire on their rivals from the MN Larma faction.

The shooting injured Koko Chakma, a 26-year-old who was piloting one of the speedboats. Koko was reported to have fallen into Kaptai Lake and remains missing.
