The Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton has called upon his city’s people to plant more trees and serve nature – in exchange for lower taxes .

He announced it at a tree  planting event arranged by Zero Soil Project, in Rajshahi, on Tuesday afternoon.

Khairuzzaman said that those who plant more trees and form rooftop gardens will be rewarded, and their holding tax might be exempt.

“There is no alternative to planting trees – to protect the environment and make it habitable.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has appealed to everyone to plant at least three trees, and I have the same request for all of you,” he added.

He added that this year, Rajshahi City Corporation will distribute 10,000 tree saplings among school-college students.

He concluded his speech by saying: “More trees will be planted alongside every new road of the city to make Rajshahi more environmentally-friendly and beautiful.”
