A cop reportedly forged his marriage document in Tangail.

In a press conference on Sunday in Elenga town of Tangail's Kalihati upazila, police constable Rezaul Karim's wife, Saleha Khatun alleged so.

According to Saleha, on September 3, 2004, she was married to Rezaul hailing from Buiyanpur upazila of Tangail. After the marriage, her in-laws, and husband took signatures, and thumbprints from her on multiple papers, allegedly for obtaining ration cards.

By using those signatures and thumbprints, Rezaul made a fake marriage document on March 12, 2006, wherein the denmohor was set at Tk one lakh which was far less than the denmohor stated in the actual marriage document.

After learning of the matter, Saleha filed a case against the marriage registrar, Ruhul Amin, and her husband for forging the marriage document.

About two years ago, her in-laws demanded a dowry of about Tk three lakh from her. Later, Rezaul sent Saleha with their two children to Saleha's parental home in Kalihati for failing to meet the demand of dowry.

Since then, Rezaul did not take care of the children or her, alleged Saleha in the press conference.

Getting no help from the police, Saleha filed a case against her in-laws including Rezaul, and marriage registrar Ruhul Amin Bhuiyan with the Tangail Judicial Magistrate Court. The case is under trial in the court.

Now she is living a pitiful life with her two children, alleged Saleha.

When asked, Rezaul said, he recently divorced Saleha.
