Suspected drug trader killed in Comilla ‘gunfight’

Tofayel was a listed drug dealer, wanted in six cases

A suspected drug trader has been killed in a reported gunfight with police in Rajapara South Choumohoni area of Comilla.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday.

The deceased, Tofayel, 23, was a listed drug dealer, accused in six cases.

Four members of the police were injured in this incident.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Dakkhin police station, Mamun ur Rashid, said: "Acting on a tip-off, we raided the area around 3am. After seeing the police, Tofayel and his associates opened fire on us.”

“In retaliation, we fired back – injuring Tofayel. The on-duty doctors pronounced him dead when he was taken to Comilla Medical College,” he added.

Police recovered one locally-made gun, a sharp weapon, and four hundred yaba pills from the spot.
