Awami League activist hacked to death in Jessore

The attackers were members of the same family

An Awami League activist Mominur Rahman, 50, has been hacked to death by miscreants in Chaugachha upazila of Jessore.

The incident occurred on Friday morning.

Mominur was the son of Shamsuddin, alias Ismail, hailing from Lashkarpur village in Sadar union of the upazila.

The deceased's wife Shefali Begum said: "Mominur was fishing at a nearby pond when seven members of a family attacked him with sharp weapons."

Shefali identified the attackers as: Yunus Ali, Alam, and Moshiar – sons of the late Sirajul Islam;  Tushar– son of Alam; Sumon – son of Moshiar; Nannu – brother-in-law of Alam and son of Abu Bakkar; all hailing from the same village. The trio's nephew, Rasel, from Churamonkati village, accompanied them.

"After the attackers left, Mominur's hacked body was rescued by the locals and sent to Chaugachha Hospital, where the on-duty doctors declared him dead," Shefali added.

Subrata Kumar Bagchi doctor of emergency department in Chaugachha Hospital said: "Mominur died before reaching the hospital, due to heavy blood loss."

Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chaugachha police station Rifat Khan Rajib said: "The scene is covered with blood and we are conducting a drive to arrest the attackers."

Chaugachha Upazila Parishad Chairman Dr Mostanisur Rahman said; "Mominur's killers should be arrested soon and face maximum punishment from the court."
