Passengers play cricket on Bangabandhu Bridge

Stranded passengers are trying to pass their time this way to deal with the hardship on the road.

With Eid knocking on the door, traffic movement on the Dhaka-Tangail highway has come to a standstill, with a 30-km tailback from Bangabandhu Bridge to Mirzapur in Tangail.

On Tuesday, a group of Eid holiday travellers – impatient after sitting on buses for hours – got off on one side of the Bangabandhu Bridge road with a bat and ball and started playing cricket.

Stranded passengers are trying to pass their time this way to deal with the hardship on the road.

Hundreds of buses and trucks have lined up on the north-bound road, leaving the Dhaka-bound road empty.

Meanwhile, some agitated travellers set fire to a magistrate's car at Bikramhati in Tangail Sadar upazila while protesting against the 30-km tailback, stretching from Bangabandhu Bridge to Mirzapur.

As of 12:45pm on Tuesday, vehicles had remained stationary for over six hours, since 6:40 in the morning, on the Bangabandhu Bridge as authorities closed the road at the toll plaza due to excessive pressure of vehicles travelling for Eid.
