A suspected drug dealer has been killed in a reported gunfight with a RAB patrol team in Gazipur’s Tongi.
The incident took place in Nodi Bondor in the early hours of Tuesday, Additional Superintendent of RAB Kamruzzaman confirmed to Dhaka Tribune.
The deceased is Ismail Hossain, 40. There are a total of 17 drug cases against him in the capital’s Banani, Gopalganj and Faridpur police stations, added the RAB official.
“Based on information, the RAB patrol team conducted a drive in the area where, realizing RAB’s presence, Ismail’s associates opened fire at them,” he said.
The police force fired back at them in self-defence, triggering the gunfight, he continued. At one point, Ismail was injured by a bullet, and his associates fled from the scene.
However, he was declared dead by the on-duty doctor when his body was taken to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College, the RAB official stated.
Two RAB members have been injured in this incident, and they were reported to have been given primary medical treatment.
