Export-import activities at the Benapole-Petrapole land port have been halted for nine days, because of the Eid-ul-Fitr vacation.
However, passport holders can continue to travel between Bangladesh and India.
Authorities said, the port will be closed, on both ends, from Friday, and official work might continue for one day during the holiday.
At the border, tax collection rates soared as the flow of goods increased ahead of the nine-day-long vacation.
Moreover, heavy vehicles have been banned, for three days before Eid, from highways. Due to this, businessmen are discharging their goods at the border so as not to stop production in factories.
Benapole C&F Agents Association Joint Secretary Mohsin Milon said: "Industry production requires a large amount of raw materials for which the materials need to be discharged – so that the vacation does not affect production.
"The imported goods that are being discharged are mostly raw materials, machinery parts, and food items; whereas the discharged exported goods are mostly garment products, chemicals, fish, jute and its by-products."
Director of Benapole port, Traffic Prodosh Kanti, said: "Usually the port is open for 24hours, six days per week. Though the office will be open for a single day during the holiday, businessmen should discharge their goods before the holiday begins."
