Police have arrested two suspects for assaulting a teacher in Pabna.
A case was filed against several unnamed persons on behalf of Masudur Rahman, a lecturer of Government Shahid Bulbul College, on Wednesday.
Police on Thursday arrested two men, Sajal Islam and Safin Sheikh, after identifying them from a CCTV footage of the college.
According to the case statement, Masudur prevented some students from illegally copying in a college exam. After the exam, those students assaulted him in front of the college on Sunday. Later, as the CCTV footage of the assault spread on social media, huge criticisms arose throughout the country.
SM Abdul Kuddus, a professor at the college, said: "We were discussing the incident in a teacher's meeting. We do not think the suspects are from our college. They could be outsiders."
Speaking to Dhaka Tribune, Shibly Sadik, president of district Chhatra League forum, said: "For the sake of proper investigation, all party activities are paused. The two arrested are not Chhatra League activists."
Pabna Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge Obaidul Haque said: "This is a sensitive issue. We arrested the accused the night the case was filed."
