Police arrested a Union Parishad (UP) member and his accomplice and sent them to jail for gang raping a woman in Comilla, following their confessional court statement.
UP member Nabirul Islam, and his associate Shahid Khan, alias Pakhi, 32, gave their confessional statements before Comilla Senior Judicial Magistrate Rokeya Begum’s court on Saturday.
Police arrested Nabirul and Shahid on Friday night in the Pranti market area of Muradnagar upazila.
Police sources said the rape survivor filed a case against eight suspects with Debidwar police station on Friday afternoon. The other suspects are Md. Akash, 30, Md. Shamim Khandakar,28, Md. Mostofa, 27, and Md. Alim, 28.
According to the case statement, on January 18, eight men abducted the woman to an abandoned house in Shaharpargram of Debidwar upazila, where they confined her for two days and gang raped her.
Debidwar police station OC, Jahirul Anwar, said: “Efforts are underway to arrest the remaining accused.”
