3 killed in Bogra, Moulvibazar ‘gunfights’

The incident occurred in Bhabanipur area of Sherpur upazila around 1:15am on Saturday

Two members of the outlawed Purbo Bangla Communist Party (PBCP Sarbohara Party) were killed in a reported gunfight between its two factions in Bogra. 

The incident occurred in Bhabanipur area of Sherpur upazila around 1:15am on Saturday.

The deceased are Liton Sarker, 35 and Afsar Ali, 48.

Bogra Sadar Additional Superintendent of Police, Sanatan Chakrabarti said: "Acting on a tip-off about a possible gunfight between two groups of the Sarbahara Party, a team from Sherpur police station conducted a drive in Bhabanipur area around 1am and found two men lying on the ground with critical injuries.” 

“A foreign pistol, one shooter gun, six rounds of pistol bullets, two rounds of shooter gun bullets, two machetes, and three organizational posters were also recovered from the spot."

The duo was taken to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital where the on-duty physician declared them dead, he added. 

Meanwhile, a suspected drug dealer was killed in a reported gunfight with the Detective Branch (DB) of Police in Moulvibazar.

The deceased was identified as Mohibur Rahman Jitu, 27.

The incident which took place in Raisree, near Moulvibazar-Kulaura road, on Saturday afternoon, also left three DB police members injured.

The injured were identified as: Sub-Inspector Mubin Ullah, 45, Constable Kabir Ahmed, 44, and Constable Sohel Miya, 40. 

Moulvibazar Model police station OC, Md Alamgir Hossain confirmed the incident to Dhaka Tribune.   

He said: “Police also recovered 300 yaba pills and several locally made weapons from the scene.”
