More unreported incidents of child rape this month are being brought to light, as four more children were raped in two districts.
Among them, three girls were raped in Bagerhat district alone.
Police arrested eight people in four districts in cases filed for rape and attempt to rape incidents on Saturday.
In the Harinkhana area of Bagerhat city, police arrested a man in a case filed for raping his 11-year-old foster daughter on multiple occasions.
The arrested Alamgir Hossain, 35, was accused in a case filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act by the child’s mother.
Bagerhat Model police station OC Mahtab Uddin said: “According to the case statement, Alamgir raped the girl on multiple occasions between March 27 and April 7.”
The girl was sent to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital for medical examination, he added.
In Fakirhat upazila of Bagerhat, police have arrested a teenager in a case filed for raping his three-year-old cousin.
The 16-year-old was detained from the Bahirdia area of Fakirhat upazila on Friday night. The incident occurred on Thursday.
Fakirhat police station OC Md Abu Zahid Sheikh said: “The girl's mother filed a case with Fakirhat police station following the incident.
“We sent the child to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital for medical tests on Saturday morning, and the accused has been taken to court.”
The arrested and the girl are cousins and lived in the same house, the OC added.
After the incident, the child fell sick and her mother took her to Fakirhat Upazila Health Complex, where the doctors provided primary treatment and referred her to Khulna Medical College Hospital.
In Rampal upazila of Bagerhat, police arrested two people in a case filed for raping an 11-year-old madrasa girl.
Oliur Rahman, principal of Shorafpur Keramotia Fazil Madrasa, and prime suspect Ferdous Sheikh, 19, a shop owner, were detained from the upazila’s Foyla area on Friday.
Rampal police station OC Lutfar Rahman said: “Following the incident, the girl's uncle filed a case against four- Ferdous, the principal, his wife, and the hostel superintendent - on Friday afternoon.”
The girl was sent to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital for medical tests on Saturday, he added.
According to the case statement, the second-grade madrasa student from Naogaon district was a resident at the dormitory of Shorafpur Keramotia Fazil Madrasa. On the night of April 11, Ferdous lured the victim into his shop near the hostel and raped her.
Afterwards, the principal, his wife, and the madrasa hostel superintendent tried to cover-up the rape incident.
In Sirajganj, police on Saturday arrested a man in a case filed for raping a 13-year-old girl with disabilities in Ullapara upazila.
Khairul Islam, 20, was detained from the upazila’s Ulipur area and sent to the district jail following a court hearing.
Ullapara police station Sub-Inspector Alaluddin said: “The girl's father filed a case with the police station on Friday, accusing two individuals.”
On Monday, neighbour Khairul and his friend Rafiqul lured the girl to a deserted place in the village and raped her.
Locals rescued the girl after hearing her scream and escorted her to her house. Khairul and Rafiqul managed to flee.
The girl's father first complained to village leaders, but then filed a case with the police station after he did not receive justice.
Police are looking for the other accused in the case, SI Alaluddin added.
Four arrested over rape attempt in Chapainawabganj
Police have arrested four people, including two union parishad members, in a case filed for the attempted rape of a third-grader in Sadar upazila of Chapainawabganj.
Prime accused Abdus Salam, Nasir Uddin, and union parishad members Rezaul Haque and Md Tufani were arrested on Saturday.
Chapainawabganj Detective Branch of police OC Babul Uddin Sardar said: “A case was filed with Chapainawabganj Sadar police station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act on Friday.”
According to case statement, Salam tried to rape the third-grader in a deserted jute field in Teroroshia area in Islampur union of Sadar upazila on Thursday.
“Salam made his escape when the girl started screaming,” the OC added.
