A 13-year-old girl has been raped reportedly by the imam of a mosque in Debidwar upazila of Comilla.
Police have arrested Mahfuzur Rahman, 21, imam of Chhoto Shalghar Dakkhinpara Baitul Falah Jame Mosque in Viralla village of the upazila, over the incident, reports UNB.
Debidwar police station OC M Jahirul Anwar said the imam seduced the teenage girl into going to his room around 10am and raped her after gagging her with a napkin.
The victim narrated the incident to her mother after returning home, the OC added.
The girl was sent to a hospital for medical examination.
The victim's father has filed a case in this regard, the OC said, adding that the imam had confessed to the crime.
The incident comes weeks after Alim examinee Nusrat Jahan Rafi was set on fire reportedly by supporters of her madrasa principal in Feni, after she had accused him of sexually harassing her.
