IGP: Action against OC if negligence found in Nusrat’s case

He said the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) is investigating the case and action will be taken against those involved in the incident

Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr Md Javed Patwary, says action will be taken if negligence of Sonagazi Model Police Station OC Moazzem Hossain is proved in handling the case filed for the arson attack on Alim examinee Nusrat Jahan Rafi.

The IGP made the remark talking to reporters after attending the annual sports competition and prize distribution ceremony of Shaheed Police Smriti School and College, at Mirpur 14 on Friday.

"We have already withdrawn the OC. Now an investigation is going on... If it is proved that he did not handle the case properly, action will be taken against him (OC) as per law,” the IGP said.

Nusrat, a student of Sonagazi Madrasa in Feni, died at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) burn unit on Wednesday night. She sustained severe burn injuries on April 6,  set ablaze, reportedly by supporters of the madrasa principal.

On April 8, the victim's brother filed a case with Sonagazi police station, accusing several people, including four burqa-clad individuals, of setting Nusrat on fire on the madrasa's rooftop.

To date, police have arrested 10 people in connection with the murder, including the main accused, Md Sirajuddaula, and his student Nuruddin.
