Leaves of BWDB officials cancelled ahead of monsoon

Concerned officials have been advised to speed up work to stop river erosion in their respective areas

Water Resources Deputy Minister, AKM Enamul Haque Shamim has said, all forms of leave for the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) officers and employees, working in the river-erosion affected areas, have been cancelled in view of the coming monsoon season.

“We have taken adequate measures ahead of the monsoon. That is why all forms of leave of the BWDB officials have been cancelled in the river erosion-affected areas,” Shamim said at a press conference at the secretariat on Wednesday, reports BSS.

“I along with the high officials of the concerned ministry have visited and identified those river-erosion affected and vulnerable areas,” he said, adding that all concerned have been advised to speed up the pace of their work to stop river erosion in their respective areas.

Water Resources Ministry Secretary, Kabir Bin Anwar and other officials were present at the press conference.

At the conference, State Minister for Water Resources, Zahid Faruk in a written speech said: “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will address a meeting as chief guest at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) at 10:30am on Thursday, as part of the World Water Day.”

“In observance of the World Water Day, a rally will be brought out from South Plaza of the Parliament building at 7 am,” he said, adding that, after parading different city streets, it will end at BICC.
