The family of the female madrasa student who suffered 75% burns when she was set on fire by unknown assailants on the roof of her madrasa institute in Feni two days ago, has started a case over the attack.
Mahmudul Hasan, brother of the 18-year-old victim, filed the case at Sonagazi police station in Feni around 3pm on Monday, the station’s OC, Moazzem Hossain, told Dhaka Tribune.
Four burqa-clad persons who set the girl on fire, and several of their unidentified accomplices, were accused in the case, the OC said.
Till Monday, he added, police arrested six people for their suspected involvement in the attack. “We have pleaded to a court to take them into remand.”
The victim is currently undergoing treatment at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital burn unit, under the supervision of an eight-member medical board. She was put on life support Monday morning after her condition deteriorated.
Her family says the girl was set on fire by supporters of Sonagazi Islamia Fazil (Degree) Madrasa Principal, Sirajuddaula, on the institute’s roof Saturday morning, for previously lodging a rape attempt case against him.

Police have identified the six arrested as Absar Hossain, an English Department teacher at Sonagazi Islamia Fazil (Degree) Madrasa, the victim’s classmate Arifur Islam, the madrasa night guard, Md Mostofa, peon Nurul Amin, Jasim Uddin and Saidul Haque.
Of them, Jasim and Saidul previously organized a human chain to protest the principal’s innocence, after the case was lodged against Sirajuddaula.
Mahmudul Hasan on Sunday told Dhaka Tribune that his sister gave him a brief description of the attack when she was being taken to Dhaka on Saturday.
He said: “When my sister went to the roof, she found four girls wearing burqas, glasses, veils, and gloves. Two of them asked her to say that the complaint against the principal was false, but my sister rejected.
”The four girls then tied her hands with rope before setting her on fire using kerosene,” he added.
On March 27, the victim’s family had filed the first case against Sirajuddaula, accusing him of attempting to rape the girl in his office.
After police found the allegations to be true following investigation, Sirajuddaula was arrested and has been in district jail since then. He has also been suspended by the madrasa.
