A fugitive criminal from Narsingdi has been killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in West Matikata, Dhaka.
The deceased, Shafiqul, 30, was wanted in a number of cases, including for murder.
RAB 11 Commanding Officer Lt Col Kazi Shomsher Uddin said: "Acting on a tip-off, a team of the elite force raided the attic of a high-rise building around 11:40pm on Tuesday.
“Shafiqul and his two associates opened fire on the team as soon as they reached the spot.”
In retaliation, RAB officials fired back, leaving Shafiqul injured.
Later, Shafiqul was declared dead when taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Meanwhile, a RAB member was injured in the “gunfight.” He is being treated at DMCH.
The RAB official said two of Shafiqul’s associates—Faurk and Pradeep—were also detained in the raid.
The elite force recovered three firearms and a few bullets from the spot.
