Local residents of a village in Magura, erupted in protest after the family of a rapist threatened a mute rape survivor and her family.
On Monday, people of Morkodkhola village in Sripur upazila, took to the streets of Magura, demanding authorities take firm and decisive action against Sohan Laskar, who has been in prison since being accused of raping a mute woman in the village.
The raped woman became pregnant and gave birth to a daughter. While the case is under trial, Sohan’s family has been threatening the victim’s family insisting they withdraw all charges.
Protesters on Monday demanded that a paternity test be performed and the victim’s family be provided adequate security.
Afterwards, they submitted a memorandum to the superintendent of police in Magura.
