Suspected drug trader killed in Comilla 'gunfight'

Police recovered 30kg of hemp and 2,000 yaba pills from the spot

A suspected drug dealer has been killed in a “gunfight” with police in Dhanpur area, under Sadar upazila of Comilla district.

The deceased, Jamal Haq alias Jambu Mia—son of Hares Mia of Joynagar village in the upazila—was accused in 11 cases filed with different police stations under the Narcotics Control Act. 

Sadar south model police station Officer-in-Charge Mamun-ur-Rashid said: “Acting on a tip-off, we conducted a drive in the area to detain the drug traders early on Thursday.

“Upon seeing us, they opened fire at us.”

In retaliation, police fired back, leaving Jamal injured while the others fled the scene.

Later, Jamal was declared dead when taken to Comilla Medical College Hospital.

The OC said police recovered 30kg of hemp and 2,000 yaba pills from the spot.
