Wife strangled to death in Comilla, husband arrested

A woman has been strangled to death allegedly by her husband in Comilla on Monday. 

The deceased has been identified as Shilipi Begum of Jagannathpur union of Sadar upazila of the district.

Kotwali Model police station OC Md Abu Salam Mia confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

Police recovered the body of the woman from Daulatpur village of Jagannathpur union under Sadar upazila on Tuesday.

Later, the body was sent to Comilla Medical College Hospital for autopsy. Meanwhile, the police arrested the husband Sumon while fleeing after the incident.

According to locals, there were family disputes between the couple since their marriage. 

In a heated argument, Sumon strangled his wife Shilpi to death on Monday night and fled the scene.

He was later caught by the police in the dead of night and brought to the police station on the assumption that he was a thief.

On Tuesday morning, the mother of the deceased went to the couple’s house and found her daughter’s body girl and informed the police.

OC Abu Salam said Sumon was arrested and taken to the police station on suspicion of being a thief from the Baluuppa area of Sadar upazila. 

After the news of a killing in Daulatpur village, police went to the house of the deceased and saw a photograph of Sumon there, he said. 

In this incident, the mother of the victim, Minu Begum filed a lawsuit against the Sumon with the police station. 

A Comilla court sent Sumon to jail later in the evening.
