A steel factory worker has died after being burnt in molten iron in Narayanganj on early Saturday.
The accident took place at the Rahim Steel Mills Co Ltd.
The deceased was identified as crane operator Suruj Mia, 37.
When reporters went to the scene to collect information on the death, they were barred from entering the factory premises by security personnel.
A high ranking official of the mill, asking to remain anonymous, said: “The accident took place at 3am on Saturday, when molten iron from a container leaked on to the factory floor, burning Suruj and killing him on the spot.”
Sonargaon police have recovered the body.
At the time of the accident, two of Suruj’s brothers were also working at the factory.
“The company will provide compensation for the accident, and will also employ a family member of Suruj,” the official said.
Sonargoan police station SI Salimul Haque said: “The body of the deceased is at the station now. The whole body was burnt. We will take necessary steps about the incident.”
Fire Service Deputy Assistant Director Mamunur Rashid said the cause of the accident would be determined after investigation.
