Motorcyclist beaten to death in Barisal

A few labourers killed Prince for drug money

A motorcyclist was beaten to death and his motorcycle and cellphone looted in the Bakerganj upazila in Barisal late Tuesday night.

The victim was identified as Faisal Ahmed Prince, 26, of Khoyerabad village under the Garuria union of Bakerganj, said Bakerganj police station Office-in-Charge (Investigation) Foyez Ahmed.

Police recovered the body at 4am on Wednesday and sent it to the Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMC) morgue for autopsy, said Foyez.

Bakerganj police station Office-in-Charge (OC) ASM Masuduzzaman said nine men have been detained for interrogation and four of them have confessed to the crime. The looted motorcycle and the victim’s phone was also recovered from the detainees.

During the interrogation, it was revealed that a group of labourers were working to install a tube well at a neighbouring house of the victim.

Prince was beaten to death and his motorcycle and mobile phone were looted by the labourers while he was returning home around 11pm Tuesday night and his body was concealed behind a shop.

One of the detainee – under police interrogation – confessed that they killed the victim for money to abuse drugs, police sources added.

Preparation to lodge a case is underway, police said.
