A suspected drug trader has been killed in a reported gunfight with the Detective Branch of Police in Mymensingh.
The incident occurred in the city’s Kalibari area around 1:30am on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Lalu Miah, 45.
Shah Kamal Akanda, officer-in-charge of district DB police said: “Upon receiving information, a team of ours conducted a drive at Kalibari Ghudaraghat Balur Char.”
“Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the drug traders opened fire, forcing us to fire back, triggering a gunfight. At one point the drug traders fled the scene, leaving Lalu behind with bullet wounds,” he said.
Later the DB police team took Lalu to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival, he said.
The OC said DB members also recovered 150 gram heroin, 300 yaba pills from the spot, and he added that Lalu was accused in seven to eight drug related cases.
However, Lalu’s daughter Sathi Akhter claimed her father had been missing since March 1.
