Two workers have been killed, while another was gravely injured, in a wall collapse in Sirajganj sadar upazila.

The incident occurred on Sunday at the local government primary school. Labourers were working on the expansion project of the school building.

The deceased have been identified as Belal Hossain, 60, and Delkod Ali Pramanik, 61. The injured, Bokkar Ali, has been admitted to Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib General Hospital.

Locals said the wall collapsed due to not having enough structural support.

Sirajganj Fire Service and Civil Defence Deputy Assistant Director, Md Abdul Hamid, confirmed the incident.

Sirajganj sadar police station Inspector (operations), Nurul Islam, said: “We have recovered two bodies from the scene. The accident occurred because the people of the contracting firm told the labourers to dig without providing any structural support.

“We are going to file a case regarding the matter.”

Tito Fokir, the contractor for the project said: “We are very embarrassed about the accident. We will try to sort it out as soon as possible.”
