Three people have been killed in separate "gunfights" with police.
In Munshiganj, Humayun, 30, a suspected robber, was killed in a gunfight in Mahakali upazila in the early hours of Sunday, confirmed Munshiganj Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Alomgir Hossain.
The OC said: "After arresting Humayun, police went to Mahakali to recover arms at about 2am. Sensing police presence, a group of robbers fired at the police, prompting police to fire back. Humayun was shot in the ensuing gunfight."
Humayun was taken to the Munshiganj General Hospital, where on-duty doctors declared him dead. He had been accused in six different cases, the OC said.
The OC further said Sub-Inspector Debashish Kundu and Assistant Sub-Inspector Minhaz were injured, and have been admitted to the hospital.
Police also recovered a piston, three rounds of bullets and a machete from the spot.
In Kushtia, an alleged drug trader has been killed in a gunfight in Shaldah area in Haripur union in the Sadar upazila.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, confirmed Kushtia Model police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nasir Uddin.
"Acting on a tip-off, a team of police went to Shaldah area where, understanding our presence, a group of drug traders started firing at us from both sides of the road," the OC said.
When the police fired back, Nazmul was injured in the gunfight. He was rescued and admitted to Kushtia General Hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead, the OC said. Nazmul had several cases against him Daulatpur police station.
Police recovered 600 pieces of yaba, 1 pistol, 2 rounds of bullets and 2 magazines from the spot. The OC claimed four police members were also injured in the gunfight.
In Comilla, suspected drug trader Mangal Miah, 55, was killed in a gunfight with police in Pirchar area of Chandina upazila around 3am on Saturday.
"Around 3am, a team of police under senior Assistant Police Superintendent Mohidul Islam conducted an anti-drug drive in Pirchar area," said Officer-in-Charge of Chandina police station Abu Foysal.
"A gunfight ensued when a group of drug traders started firing at the police," he continued. "Mohibul was injured in the gunfight."
Mohibul died on his way to the hospital, Foysal said. His body has been sent to Comilla Medical College and Hospital for autopsy.
