Fugitive convict killed in Lakshmipur ‘gunfight’

Manu had been absconding after being convicted in a case

A fugitive convict has been killed in a “gunfight” between two groups of robbers in Kamalnagar upazila of Lakshmipur.

Mainuddin Manu, 44, son of Ahmed Patwary of the area, was killed in the “gunfight” in Char Kadira union around 2am on Thursday.

Manu had been absconding after being convicted to life imprisonment in a case, police sources said.

Kamalnagar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) (Investigation) Md Alamgir Hossain said Manu was accused in six cases filed with Feni, Noakhali’s Chatkhil, Laksmipur Sadar and Kamalnagar police stations.   

He said acting on a tip-off, policemen conducted a drive in area. 

Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the robbers fled the scene leaving Manu’s body behind.

Police also seized a pipe-gun and two rounds of bullet from the spot, he added.
