A deer in Uttara Ganabhaban in Natore has given birth to a fawn.

The doe named Shyama gave birth in the early hours of Wednesday, Mehedi Hasan, keeper of animals at Uttara Ganabhaban, told the Dhaka Tribune. However, the newborn is yet to be named.

Mehedi said animals and birds were brought to the Ganabhaban, the principal residence of the prime minister in the northern part of the country, almost nine months ago.

Among them, there are two does, Shyama and Shyamoli, and three stags.

The newborn fawn is in good health, Mehedi said. It will get a name after Natore Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shah Reaz visits the Ganabhaban on Wednesday afternoon, he added.

Other than deer, Ganabhaban is also host to two monkeys, two mynas, two parrots, one African grey parakeet and one peacock.

Visitors have rushed to get their first glimpse of the baby deer after hearing of its birth.

Natore NDC Aninda Kumar Mandal said: "The DC will name the fawn after coming to Ganabhaban in the afternoon.”
