A suspected drug trader has been killed in a reported gunfight with police in Kushtia.
The incident took place in Mollateghoria Canalpara area of Kushtia Sadar Upazila around 3am on Saturday.
The deceased, Habibur Rahman Hubba, 50, had several cases filed against him with Kushtia model police station.
Kushtia model police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Monir Hossain said: "Police conducted a drive based on a tip-off to Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nasir Uddin that a gang of drug traders had gathered in the area.
Sensing presence of police, the drug traders opened fire on them, forcing them to retaliate in self-defence, triggering the gunfight.
Later, police found the bullet-riddled body of Habibur, who was taken to Kushtia General Hospital where the duty doctors declared him dead.
Meanwhile, police said four law enforcement members, including SI Mustafiz, were also injured in the incident.
Police recovered 800 yaba pills, one foreign pistol, two rounds of bullets, and two bullet magazines from the spot.
