At least three people were killed in a landslide while building a wall on the foot of a hill in College Gate area of the town Wednesday.
The deceased are house owner Shamsul Alam, 50, and construction workers Kalu Malakar, 34, and Md Hanif, 32.
Deputy Director of Rangamati Fire Service Md Golam Mostafa said that the under-construction wall of a tin-shed house collapsed since it had been built without taking any precautions.
The accident occurred around 4:30pm.
Fire fighters and army personnel rescued the three from under the rubbles and took them to Rangamati Sadar Hospital where they were declared dead.
Deputy Commissioner Md Manzarul Mannan and other senior government officials visited the spot and directed the officials concerned to take proper action to avert such incidents.
