The extent of cold weather has increased a lot in Gaibandha and poor people living near the Rivers Jamuna and Brahmaputra are suffering a lot without warm clothing.
Taking advantage of the situation, hawkers and street vendors in the region have raised the price of used warm clothes as well.
The government is yet to distribute winter clothes for the season, which is also causing immense suffering to underprivileged residents of the area.
The low temperatures in Gaibandha are also affecting businesses in the area due to fewer people staying out after dark.
The cold wave started on Friday afternoon.
People and livestock in the char region are suffering the most.
Waterways transport has also been stopped due to thick fog.
District Refief Official Idris Ali said: “Around 40,000 blankets were allotted and are in the process of distribution.”
The District Department of Agricultural Extension Deputy Director AKM Ruhul Amin said: “Crops are getting damaged due to the thick fog in the region which is affecting cultivation in the area as a whole.”
