The nation observed Jail Killing Day across the country on Saturday commemorating the assassinations of four national leaders, who were brutally murdered inside the Dhaka Central Jail in 1975.
Four national leaders Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmed, M Mansur Ali and AHM Qamaruzzaman were killed by some disgruntled army personnel on November 3 in 1975, just 79 days after the August 15 massacre.
The ruling Awami League, its front organizations, including the Juba League, Swechchhasebak League, Awami Mohila League, Krishak League, and Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote and several socio-cultural organizations participated in the programs, chalked up for the day.
In Barisal, the City Corporation Mayor Serniabat Sadik Abdullah laid a wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and four slain leaders in front AL office at 10 am followed by Awami League (AL) leaders, and activists in black badges. Other organizations too did the same.
Special prayers too were offered for them seeking eternal peace.
A discussion was later held at AL office with M Hossain Chowdury in the chair addressedby TM Yunus MP, Sadik Abdullah, and other leaders.
In Kushtia, Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu and other Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal leaders including Afroja Haque Rina, Alhaj Abdul Alim Swapan, Emdadul Haque Ata, Bashir Uddin Bachhu, Abu Hena Mohammad Mostofa Bakul placed wreaths at the portraits of the four leaders at the Kushtia Bheramara Chattar at 11am.

In Kishoreganj, inremembrance of Syed Nazrul Islam, born in 1925 in Jashodal Dampara in the district, the people along with the district administration held various programs.
The programs includeda rally, blood donation, discussion, art competition and documentary shows.The local dailies also published special articles on him.
In Rajshahi, a candle-lit program was organized to remember Shahid Kamruzzaman at his birth place in Rajshahi. Dr Anika Fariha Zaman Arna, granddaughter of the slain leader led the program.
In Jhenaidah, the district unit AL brought out a rally from the Puraton Court Chattar in the morning.

Later, local leaders and activists placed wreaths at the portraits of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the four leaders.
The jail killing is recognized as one of the most tragic events in the history of Bangladesh, which emerged as an independent state in 1971 after a long bloody struggle against Pakistan.
