Two suspected drug traders have been killed in separate gunfights with police in the Sadar and Muktagachha upazilas of Mymensingh.
Both incidents occurred in the early hours of Saturday, reports UNB.
In Muktagachha upazila, suspected drug trader Abdullah Al Kafi, 31 – from Amdalia village in Fulbari upazila – was killed in a gunfight with police in Kathalia Jhaloi Bridge area, around 1:45am.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of the Detective Branch of police (DB) conducted a drive in the area, and were ambushed by a group of "drug traders,"said Shah Md Kamal Akand, officer-in-charge of DB police.
Kafi was injured in the ensuing gunfight. He was taken to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.
Police recovered one LG and two cartridges from the spot.
Meanwhile, in Sadar upazila, another suspected drug trader, Alamgir Hossain Gutu, 27 – from Puratan Gudaraghat area – was killed in a gunfight with police near Shaheb Kachari Bazar area, around 1:30am.
Police recovered 2kg of hemp and two bullet shells from the spot.
