Women’s organization Naripokkho has condemned the vandalism incident that took place in a Buddhist temple in the Guimara upazila of Khagrachhari.
“We strongly condemn the incident and demand a judicial inquiry into the incident,” reads a press release.
“The desecration of a Buddha statue is not an isolated incident of vandalism. Moreover, this incident is part of repression of the tribal minority in hill districts.”
The responsibility of such communal terrorism falls on the government and the state, because the responsibility of the democratic state is to ensure the safety of all citizens irrespective of religion and caste and to ensure the safety of all the religious festivals of all religions.
“Not only statues are broken in such incidents, but it is a great hit on the harmony of people of all faiths.”
Naripokkho urges the government to give utmost importance to stop communal violence and take long-lasting action to prevent such incidents.
On Tuesday, a Buddha statue was vandalized by unidentified miscreants in Guimara upazila of Khagrachhari.
As the Buddhist temples celebrated the Buddhist festival of Probarona Purnima on Wednesday, many posts on social media are condemning the timing of the deplorable act.
