An outlawed party leader has been killed in a “gunfight” with Rapid Action Battalion in Tangail Sadar upazila.

Sharif alias Farhad, 33, son of the late Chan Mia of Gala village under the upazila, was the district president of Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP-ML) Lal Pataka faction.

RAB 12 CPS 3 Company Commander Rabiul Islam told the Dhaka Tribune: “Acting on a tip-off, we went to the area around 2:30am on Monday.

“Upon seeing us, they opened fire on us.”

In retaliation, the elite force members fired back—injuring Farhad. Two RAB officials were also injured in the incident.

Later, Farhad was declared dead when taken to Tangail General Hospital.

Additionally, a foreign-made pistol, magazine, and four rounds of bullets were recovered from the spot.

Rabiul Islam said a case will be filed in this regard.
