According to a directive issued on Thursday by puja organizers Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad and Mahanagar Sarbajanin Puja Committee, all Durga Puja idols in the country must be immersed by 10pm on October 19, the day of Bijoya Dashami.
The directive was announced by the two puja organizers at a view-exchange meeting with journalists, held at Dhakeshwari National Temple in Dhaka, reports BSS.
Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad President Milon Kanti Dutta and General Secretary Nirmal Kumar Chattarjee, journalist Swapan Kumar Saha, Mahanagar Sarbajanin Puja Committee President Shoilendra Nath Majumder and General Secretary Kishore Ranjan Mandal were among those who addressed the meeting.
The puja organizers also announced a directive to keep Bijoya Dashami processions off the streets from 12pm to 2pm on the day, due to the Jumma prayers.
“We are respectful to all religions. We are giving the directives to maintain the sanctity of other religions,” said a statement read out by the puja organizers at the meeting.
The five-day-long Hindu religious festival Durga Puja will begin on October 15, the day of Maha Shashti.
The statement said as many as 31,272 permanent and temporary mandaps for Durga Puja are being set up across the country. This year, there are 1,195 more puja mandaps as compared to last year.
